Passwords for Computers
and Websites |
|
Problem |
They need to be unique,
and “long enough,” but not too difficult to remember – and you have to have a
plan for those applications that make you change them at regular intervals |
|
Solution |
First of all, you need
a unique “root word,” that isn’t tied to your name or birthdate or something
obvious. You’ll need at least 7 or 8
letters (1 or 2 CAPs), a sign, and a number. For example, if your favorite book when you
were young was “Horton hears a who,” you could use
that. So, your “Default
Password” is “HortonH#1” |
|
Remarks |
You will need to start
and maintain a list those sites that make you change your password (the
others will be your default). Each
time you “change” your password, just add one to it. On your list – Never put your password
together with those numbers. For example, when
you’re forced to change your “digme<dot>com” password, your new one
would be “HortonH#2” (then 3, etc). |
