Problem |
Political ads on TV are
driving up the cost of campaigns and driving down the selection of quality
candidates |
|
Solution |
Limit TV time. I propose that candidate commercials not be
allowed to exceed 25% of TV ads, for any hour of broadcast/cable time. Also, in support of the
above: - Legislate that ads for candidates
polling in the double digits be provided at a rate of 25% of market cost. - Establish a government portal on the
Internet, where candidates and parties can ‘publish’ the ads that they wish
to run (both traditional web pages, and a “You Tube” – like presence). - This would have no affect on “news”
programming – only on paid “commercials.” |
|
Remarks |
With the government
portal (free to candidates) and the growing use of search engines, there is
no longer an imperative for TV exposure, as there once was. |
